The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford raised over £19,000 in 2018 for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, almost double its pledge for the year.

This is the second year in which the centre has raised a five-figure sum for the Children at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, with the aim of making life in hospital more comfortable for the young patients and their families.

Throughout the year, both employees and shoppers of The Broadway took part in a wide variety of activities organised by the centre, aimed at bringing the community together and supporting the work done by the charity.

In September, colleagues put their fitness to the test when they took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. They successfully completed the notoriously demanding 24 mile hike, which includes 1,585m of ascent throughout the route.

Staff from The Broadway also delivered sackfuls of Christmas toys to the Children & Young People’s Unit.

Additional support came from Channel 5 programme ‘Shop Smart, Save Money’.  The programme, which filmed at the centre throughout the year, made a generous donation to the charity in place of a fee at the request of The Broadway.

Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, says: “We’d like to thank anyone who has taken part in any of our fundraisers or supported us with a donation – we’ve had a ball doing it.

“The work Bradford Hospitals’ Charity carries out in our city is an inspiration to the rest of us, providing specialist care for patients and their families at a time when they need it most.’

Hayley Collis, fundraiser for Bradford Hospitals Charity, says: “We’re so grateful for the ongoing support of everyone at The Broadway.  They always go above and beyond to help make a difference to our families in hospital and we can’t thank them enough and look forward to working with them again in 2019.”
